The EEGC Question Selection Group

Chair and Deputy of the Question Selection Group


  • The Chair and Deputy are appointed by the Vice President for Training of the UEMS Cardiology Section / EEGC Board Chair
  • Tenure is for 2 years which may be renewed once


  • Active member of the EEGC question writing group
  • Detailed understanding of all aspects of the Question Selection process
  • Good leadership and IT skills


  • In consultation with the EEGC board chair to appoint the members of the Question Selection Group from the National Societies taking part in the EEGC to maintain an appropriate number of members
  • Ensures the Question Selection Guide is up to date and that MCQ Selectors are updated on the best practice for selecting questions
  • To ensure that the pre-selection process using the on-line tool is completed by the members of the Group before the Question Selection Meeting
  • To chair one Question Selection Meeting each year
  • To guide the work of the Question Selection meeting to ensure that questions are selected according to the EEGC Blueprint
  • To provide advice to the Chair of the Question Writing Group on topics to be prioritised in calls for new questions
  • The Chair to sit as a member on the EEGC Board
  • The Chair and/or Deputy attend the Kick-Off meeting at the ESC Congress



  • Proposed by national societies and appointed by the EEGC board chair in consultation with the Chair of the Question Selection Group
  • Tenure is for 2 years which may be renewed


  • Highly experienced members of the Question Writing Group
  • Full understanding of the Question Selection process


  • To pre-select the requested number of high-quality best-of-five multiple choice questions covering the requested topics in accordance with the EEGC Blueprint
  • To submit the requested number of questions using the on-line tools before the Group Meetings
  • To attend the Group meeting once each year
  • To assess all questions pre-selected by the Group and agree the final selection and reserve questions
  • If a member is unable to attend a meeting, the Chair or Deputy will contact them to determine whether they want to remain a member of the Group


  • The Group will meet routinely once each year in February
  • By agreement with the EEGC Chair and Question Selection Group Chair, representatives of National Cardiology Societies may attend the Question Selection Meeting to observe

EEGC Blueprint

The questions in the exam are categorised in 5 sections based on the knowledge items in section 2 of the ESC Core Curriculum for the General Cardiologist (2013). These setions will be revised in alignment with the Core Curriculum for the Cardiologist 2020. It is recognised that many questions include aspects of more than one topic. As far as possible, questions are classified according to the main point of knowledge to be tested. Approximately 20% of questions (24) will be from each section.

Reuse of Questions
Approximately 50% of questions will not previously have been used in an exam
Approximately 50% will be questions which have previously performed well in the exam

Use of Images in Questions
Approximately 20% of questions will include one still image
Approximately 10% of questions will include one video clips
The remaining questions will include text only
